New Release - Spirit Animal:

The fifth album and seventh overall release by Submasq, "Spirit Animal," is on its way! Recorded in Sweden (Fascination Street Studios) and Israel, and mixed by Adam Noble (known for his work with Paul McCartney, Placebo, Nothing but Thieves, Biffy Clyro, Leprous, and more), "Spirit Animal" delivers a darker sonic journey compared to the band's back catalog. It combines Submasq’s unique fusion of festive ethnic music with alternative rock textures, all while retaining their signature progressive legacy.

With a strong emphasis on songwriting, "Spirit Animal" embarks on an autobiographical personal quest, exploring the conflict between ancestral spirituality and its haunting roots. The album bravely touches upon subjects such as post-trauma, bipolar disorder, war, addiction, and collective memory. These themes are enriched by Eastern soundscapes, creating a fragile yet vivid emotional journey for the listener.

 

Spirit Animal is due to be released during 2025.

Previous Work and Achievements:

While many musicians and bands saw their activities grind to a halt during the COVID-19 pandemic, Israeli progressive rock, metal, and world music act Subterranean Masquerade (aka Submasq) remained incredibly active. May 2021 marked the release of their critically acclaimed album, "Mountain Fever," which garnered tremendous recognition and buzz both in Israel and internationally.

After years of primarily focusing on an international career, performing for audiences of hundreds and thousands, the shutdown of the global music industry allowed the band to shift their focus inward. This led to them becoming a household name in the local Israeli rock music scene, regularly selling out their concerts.

Led by guitarist and producer Tomer Pink, Submasq is signed with Sensory Records, the esteemed US label that debuted metal giants such as Riverside, Haken, and Diablo Swing Orchestra. "Mountain Fever" presents a more refined version of the band’s distinctive style, bringing the vibrant atmosphere of their live performances to the forefront. The album features colorful yet driving tracks, filled with sing-alongs, and more than ever, masterfully fuses arena rock with their famously spicy flavors. Among its many achievements, the album reached top spots on numerous lists worldwide, including the Top 10 best-selling albums on Amazon UK’s Metal and Hard Rock list in May 2021.

Between 2021 and 2023, Submasq has been widely lauded in the world's biggest music magazines. Their name consistently appears in prominent US and European outlets such as Loudwire, Metal Hammer, Prog Magazine, Classic Rock, Rock Hard, New Noise, Metal Injection, Horns Up France, Loud TV France, Rock Hard Italy, This is Rock Spain, Eclipsed Magazine, Fireworks UK, Iasi TV Romania, and many others.

Their latest release, "Mountain Fever," was featured on numerous "best albums of 2021" lists worldwide. Locally, the band gained recognition in the Calcalist newspaper and on Kan 11's prime-time TV.

Submasq is increasingly gaining popularity, with many viewing them as Israel's next significant emissary in the metal world. Their live concerts are a sizzling, flavorful experience that combines metal with Hasidic, Indian, and Balkan influences, attracting a loyal following of hundreds of people.

Since the release of "Mountain Fever," Subterranean Masquerade has expanded its international presence, booked to perform at major international festivals across Asia and Europe. These include the Dong Open Air Festival in Germany, Maximum Rock Romania, Saarang World Fest in India, and Israel's Psychoward Festival, to name a few. The band has also had the distinct honor of directly supporting legendary acts such as Disturbed and Deep Purple.

Submasq stands as the first Israeli band to secure endorsement deals with the heavy metal headphone company ‘Heavys’ and with renowned synthesizer manufacturer Sequential.

Prior to "Mountain Fever," the band also performed at ProgPower Europe and embarked on tours with prominent bands including Orphaned Land, Therion, Dirty Shirt, and Sons of Apollo. Furthermore, they have collaborated with members of esteemed bands such as Melechesh, Novembers Doom, Green Carnation, Agalloch, and At the Gates.

In a notable achievement, vocalist Davidavi Dolev was cast to voice the main antagonist in the metal video game "Of Bird & Cage." He featured alongside an impressive roster of musicians, including Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (formerly of Guns N' Roses), Kobra Paige of Kobra and the Lotus, Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria, and members of bands such as Evanescence, Within Temptation, and Epica.
